  • Prepare Your Lawn this Spring

The days are getting longer, the daffodils are sprouting and it’s finally starting to feel like spring is in the air. After a long winter of difficult conditions, your lawn is bound to need a little love and attention, so it’s time to dust off your gardening gloves and get back out into the fresh air.

It’s important to start taking care of your lawn now to help it recover from winter and prepare for summer. So here are a few simple tips to help you give your lawn the best possible start to the year.

    Feeding

Your lawn needs feeding during the spring to help it replace the nutrients that it has lost during the dark months of winter. These nutrients are essential for growth, so feeding your lawn at this crucial time will help make your grass dark and lush.

    Seeding

Overseeding your lawn helps to fill out any patchy areas and generally contributes to a good colour and thick covering across the board. Mix your seed in with a layer of topdressing to give it the best chance of taking root.

    Mowing your turf

    Mowing

Regular mowing is crucial for a happy, healthy lawn. Start off slowly in the spring, with your mower blades set high to avoid causing undue stress to the grass. The frequency of mowing should be dictated by growth, but if your grass gets too long it’s important to take it down by stages rather than chop it too low all at once.
